Pak summons US envoy following joint statement with India

Pakistan's foreign ministry summoned the US embassy's deputy chief of mission on Monday to express concern and disappointment over a joint statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.

The statement called on Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that no territory under its control is used as a base for terrorist attacks. Pakistan alleged that the statement contained "one-sided and misleading" references and urged the United States to refrain from issuing statements that could be seen as supporting India's narrative against Pakistan.

In response, the US State Department emphasized the importance of Pakistan taking further steps to dismantle terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad, and their front organizations. While acknowledging Pakistan's efforts in countering terrorism, the US reiterated its commitment to raising this issue regularly with Pakistani officials.

The joint statement has added strain to the already complex relationship between Pakistan and the United States. Pakistan emphasized the progress in counter-terrorism cooperation and emphasized the need for an enabling environment based on trust and understanding to strengthen bilateral ties.
